Thank You to all who joined in at our Strangebrewary Meeting. 28 people voted. In the Strangest Category: 1st Place was Smoked Sour Jalapeno Pineapple by Brad and Steve with 53 points-2nd Place was Red Fruit and Mint Imperial Stout by Alex with 41 points-3rd Place was Honey Nut Beerios by Dan with 24 points-Honorable Mention was Green Tea and Honey Pale by Alex with 16 points and Oyster Stout by Ryan with 15 points.

New Club Officers and Upcoming Meetings

The West Sound Brewers elected new club officers for 2019: President is Dan R., Vice-President is David W., Treasurer is Vic K., Co-Secretaries are Ernie and Marti G. and Special Events Organizer is Oggie. Congratulations to All! Diane D. is in charge of ordering new club shirts.

Wednesday JANUARY 16th from 6:30-8:30pm is our next Q&A Session. Dave Dodge - brewer/owner of Bad Bulldogs Brewery in Bremerton will be our guest speaker and the Session will take place in the brewery. Dave will be discussing and asking for suggestions on collaborating with the WSB and is offering a dedicated tap. The brewery has a one barrel system and a three barrel system. Bad Bulldogs does offer light snacks and you may bring in your own food. Please order your beer before you enter the Session. We will also be discussing new upcoming Pro-Am competitions. Diane will also be taking orders/money for the new WSB shirts. More info is in the Newsletter emailed 1/1/19.

Saturday JANUARY 19th from 1-6pm is our Imperial Brew Tasting (fka Barleywine Meeting). Bring a commercial or homebrew of any style that is 8% abv or above. Please bring a potluck dish to share and don't forget your taster glass and bottled water. There will be a TIP JAR for use of the space, so please bring small cash. Diane will also be taking orders/money for the new WSB shirts. It is highly recommended to have a designated driver since these brews are very strong. Monday FEBRUARY 25th from 6:30-8:30pm is our scheduled Q&A Session (check for updates) and our guest speaker is Denver, the brewer of Western Red Brewing in Poulsbo. The Session will take place in the taproom. Come by earlier for dinner and beer: Western Red does serve hotdogs. Denver will be discussing his time homebrewing, how Western Red came about and maybe more pro-am collaborations.

Sunday FEBRUARY 17th from 2-6pm is our annual Strangebrewary Meeting. This is a friendly competition with prizes for Strangest and for Tastiest Homebrew. Brew up something unusual and bring your entry in 3 22oz bottles or a growler or the equivalent and label them with the name of your brew. While we are waiting for everyone to arrive we can share other homebrews. At 3pm we will start tasting the Strangebrewary entries and take notes and then vote. We will announce the winners at 5pm. Please bring a potluck dish to share and don't forget your taster glass and bottled water. Sorry, no one under 21 is allowed in the meeting space. Monday March 11th from 6:30-8:30pm is our Q&A SESSION with brewmaster Bill Poss of Cash Brewing in Old Town Silverdale. Come by earlier for dinner or order your beer and food at the bar before you enter the Session which will be at the back of the restaurant.

MARCH is our fourth annual homebrew Wood Fest and will take place in Poulsbo on Saturday March 23rd from 2-6pm. This is a friendly competition with prizes for the best homebrew aged in or on wood. Bring your entry in 3 22oz bottles or a growler or the equivalent and label them with the name of your brew. While we are waiting for everyone to arrive we can enjoy the taproom beers or share other homebrews. Please bring a potluck dish to share and don't forget your taster glass and bottled water. APRIL is our annual homebrew Bottle Fermented/Cask Fest. This is a friendly competition with prizes for the best homebrew that is bottle fermented or served from cask or vessel that does not need CO2 for dispensing. Start researching! Please bring your entry in 3 22oz bottles or cask and label them with your full name and the name of your brew. While we are waiting for everyone to arrive we can share other homebrews. Don't forget your taster glass and bottled water.

Saturday MAY 4th is BIG BREW! An annual American Homebrewers Association event that is held worldwide. The Toast to Homebrewing is 10am our time. Homebrew clubs determine their own location and club members bring their own brewing equipment and brew all day. You may choose the AHA recipe or use your own. The West Sound Brewers will brew again this year in Poulsbo starting at 9:30am.

JUNE 22nd Meeting will be hosted by Mike M. in Bremerton. JULY 1st is the 25th Anniversary of Olympic Brewing Supply in East Bremerton. JULY Meeting will be hosted by Bruce in Hansville and we will have a homebrew small beer competition of brews that are 4.5% abv or lower. August is also the 10th Annual Beerstock in Orting. AUGUST Meeting is hosted by Oggie and the OCTOBER meeting is hosted by Curt and Diane.

December and January Meetings

The December Meeting is Saturday December 15th from 3-7pm and will be held in the meeting space at Bad Bulldogs Brewery in Bremerton. The theme is Winter Brews (homebrews or commercial) and is also potluck. Don't forget your taster glass. We will be selecting our new Club Officers and will have our annual "Bring a Bottle - Take a Bottle" exchange. Please park in the Safeway parking lot north side.

The January Meeting is Saturday January 19th from 1-6pm and will be held in the meeting space of Western Red Brewing in Poulsbo. We are transitioning from the former Barleywine Meeting to an Imperial Brew Tasting - bring any style brew that is 8% abv or over - homebrew or commercial. Since these brews are strong it is highly recommended that you have a designated driver. Please bring a potluck dish to share and don't forget your taster glass.

Pro-Am and Popular Vote Winners

The West Sound Brewers held their Pro-Am Competition on November 3rd at Western Red Brewing and 5 local breweries participated. We had a total of 21 entries. Denver from Western Red Brewing chose David C. "West Sound 'strong' Bitter". Dave from Bad Bulldogs Brewing chose Dave W. "Palace 'special' Bitter". Tim from Bent Bine chose Oggie's "Brown Malt Imperial Brown". Jeff from Dog Days Brewing chose Lou S. "Bosque Blond" trappist ale. And Bill from Cash Brewing chose Dave W. "Everyday Pale Ale". Congratulations to All!

After the Pro-Am we had a Popular Vote. First Place with 12 points went to Dave F. for his "Over the Hop" American IPA. Second Place with 9 points went to David C. for his "Cherry Vanilla Cream Ale". Tied for Third Place with 7 points was Glenn H. for his "William Wet Hop" pale ale and Dan R. for his "Good Kitty Pale Ale". Tied for Honorable Mention was Lou S. for his "Tropical Saison" and Don B. for his "Midnight Imperial Stout". Congratulations to All!

Our November Q&A Session is with club member Brad M. on Wednesday November 14th. The December Meeting is scheduled for Saturday December 15th from 3-7pm. The January Imperial Brew Tasting/Meeting is scheduled for Saturday January 19th from 1-6pm.

WSB November Meeting/Pro-Am Competition and November Q&A Session

The WSB November Meeting is Saturday November 3rd from 2-7pm. It is also the WSB Pro-Am Competition. Information and rules are in the Newsletter emailed out 10/31.

The WSB November Q&A is Wednesday November 14th from 5-9pm at Ashley's Pub in Bremerton and our guest speaker is club member Brad M. who won top places in our Favorite Brew voting at the Strangebrewary and Wood Fest Meetings. Brad will speak on how and why he got into homebrewing and about his unique high gravity brews. Bring your dinner or a potluck dish - Ashley's does have snacks available for purchase. We will have a Tip Jar out for use of the space so please bring small cash. More info in the Newsletter emailed out 10/31.

September Q&A, September and October Meetings

The September Q&A Session is Thursday September 20th from 6:30-8:30pm in the side diningroom of Sound Brewery in Poulsbo. Our guest speaker is Mark Hood - owner/general manager of Sound Brewery. Mark will talk about his time of homebrewing, his travel and beer influences and how he created Monk's Indiscretion. Please come by earlier for dinner or order your beer and food at the bar before you enter the Session.

The September Meeting is Friday September 28th from 5-9pm and is hosted by Alan at his place north of Poulsbo. The theme is Oktoberfest/Marzens and similar lagers and fresh hop/harvest brews. Alan will also be conducting a glassware demonstration - one brew will be placed in a variety of glass styles and you can sniff and sip to discover how the glass style affects the brew. Please bring a potluck dish to share. Carpooling is recommended. There is some parking near the house and more at the top of the very steep and long driveway. A flashlight is recommended, also.

The October Meeting is Friday October 19th from 4-9pm and is hosted by Curt and Diane at their place in East Bremerton. The theme will be IPAs, other homebrews and any BIG BREW beers if you have some left from May. Please bring a potluck dish to share and don't forget your taster glass.

Summer Meetings, Portland AHA Conference and Beerstock

The June Meeting is Saturday June 9th from 2-6pm and is hosted by Don and Sarah at their place in Eglon. We will be celebrating Don's 70th birthday and that he was also at the very first WSB meeting 26 years ago. Don still brews on his updated 10 gallon system. Belgian beer styles (homebrew and commercial) are the theme for the meeting and any homebrew is welcomed to share. Don will be cooking up a pork dish and will have some veggie sides. Please bring a potluck dish to share and don't forget your tasting glass. Also the meeting will be outside, so you may want to bring a chair and jacket. The address given is incorrect in the current Newsletter, but will be updated in the upcoming Reminder Newsletter coming out next week.

The AHA Conference in Portland this year takes place from June 28th thru the 30th and the WSB will have a booth on Club Night. Several members will be attending bringing a variety of brews to share with other clubs that Friday night.

The July Meeting is Saturday July 14th from 2-8pm and is hosted by Bruce and Dee at their place near Point No Point. Summer brews (homebrews and commercial) are the theme. This meeting will also be outside, so please bring a chair and jacket, plus a potluck dish to share.

The Bremerton Summer Brew Fest on the boardwalk in Bremerton is July 20th and 21st.

Beerstock will once again be in Orting, but will be delayed a month because of the AHA Conference being so close. The date is August 11th and the theme is "Space, where no beer has gone before". The WSB will have a double booth again and there will be camping.

The August Meeting is Saturday August 25th from 1-10pm and will be hosted by Oggie and Wendy at their place on Erlands Point. The theme will be Meads, Ciders and Wine and there will be a friendly competition for best homemade mead, cider or wine. One bottle of Mead will suffice, but Cider/Wine will probably need 2 22oz bottle or 3 12oz bottles. Oggie will be cooking up some brisket and pork. Please bring your taster glass, homebrews, commercial brews and a potluck dish.

The Q&A Sessions will start again in September. The September Meeting is Friday September 28th from 5-9pm and is hosted by Alan. The theme is Oktoberfest and Marzens. More info on the meetings is in the Newsletter emailed out 8/19.
