June 2008
Hi All,
Darryl and Andrea Elves have offered to host our June meeting again, on Wednesday, June 18, 7ish. Come enjoy their wonderful home on Liberty Bay. Hopefully by that late in Juneuary it will finally be sunny and warm. If not, you can be the first this year to sing, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas."
Darryl says they'll have some snacks ready. He does have a nice grill on the deck so consider bringing something for grilling.
Contact Us for directions.
Andrea loves fruity lambics so bring those along if you have no homebrew to share. Matt is already coveting the empties (so feel free to bring him any empty corkable bottles, it could earn you some special saison samples).
Talk about future meetings on Wednesday. Mark Hood offered to make his Independence Day party double as our July meeting, or we can do both that and a more official meeting. John Altman would like to host in August. Marti and Brad are interested in hosting again soon. If you want to host a meeting but think your place is too small, late summer and fall would be a good time to give it a go. Let us know.
Saturday, June 21, John Gray is hosting a rum tasting in Port Orchard and he invited WSB members to attend. Bring a bottle of rum to share with your fellow samplers. Contact Alan Moum if you want to arrange carpooling.
Brewer extraordinaire Tom Munoz joins Big Daddy at Silver City. Despite brewing great medal winning beers at places like Glacier Peak, FarWest, Stix, and others Tom's luck with breweries hasn't been the best. Hopefully we'll taste the fruits of his labor and creativity for a long time to come.
From Silver City emailing:

In the first one he mentions his first brew, made at our WSB Big Brew event. Chris is full of great info and ideas about beer, check out his scribblings.
Don't forget to check out the WSB website from time to time, and don't miss Brad, Matt, and Mike's blogs linked from the site.

Ask around about carpooling to this event.
Originator/organizer Jon Tobey has left the WSB link on this website for several years after our minimal contribution to the first year's event. Many WSB members have participated every year, as brewers, judges, and speakers. Ask about it at Wednesday's meeting. Alan Moum would rave about it there but he will be out of state next week.

Title: "Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale, Stout"
I Went down the local pub the other night
A pint of mild there in me sight
Up approached a southern geezer
he Said
"Have a Bacardi Breezer"
I said I hope you're joking son that's not right
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale Stouts
Designers drink, I'd rather drink nought
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and yer out
I took Jean to Pig & Albert for us tea
When some bloke ordered WKD
Well I didn't know what for do
When Big Frank ordered Malibu
I tried explain to Jean
She just couldn't see
(She's partially sighted, registered disabled)
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale Stouts
Designer drinks, I'd rather drink nwt
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and your out
Everywhere I turn I see these Alcopops
The kids are drinking 'em
Hanging round the shops
I should be their babysitter
I could get 'em onto bitter
No more ASBO's
It's just barley, wheat and hops
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale Stouts
Designer drinks, I'd rather drink nwt
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and your out
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale Stouts
Designer drinks, I'd rather drink nwt
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and your out
Please drink in moderation

Song: GENERAL GUINNESS AND THE THREE LITTLE JIGS
You've heard of General Wellington who won at Waterloo,
Well, here's a good old Irishman I'll introduce to you.
He comes from down in Dublin, he's a man they all applaud,
For he always found the corkscrew far more handy than the sword!
He's Good Old General Guinness, he's a warrior strong and stout,
He's found on ev'ry bottle front and can't be done without.
His noble name, his worldwide fame deserve three hearty cheers-
Hurrah for General Guinness of the Dublin Boozeliers!
This hale and hearty warrior is worshipped in the ranks
For he does his task inside the cask as well as in the tanks
And he bears the brunt on ev'ry front north, south, east and west
And he wears about a million canteen metals on his chest!
He's Good Old General Guinness, he's won the world's applause,
The man who kept our spirits up in the midst of all our wars,
Who was the first to flirt with Mademoiselle from Armentieres-
Hurrah for General Guinness of the Dublin Boozeliers!
All over Bonnie Scotland, too, the General is seen,
He's served at ev'ry station from Carlisle to Aberdeen.
From Inverness to Galashiels he keeps them warm and bright
And they love to gather 'round him on ev'ry moonlight night.
He's Good Old General Guinness, he's as good as Scottish broth,
The man who turned the Firth of Forth into the Firth of Froth!
All Scotsmen dance the Highland Fling and shout when he appears
"Hurrah for General Guinness of the Dublin Boozeliers!"
This tune is limited lyrically but it's a great reggae influence piece with amazing horns. If you don't have it on one of the WSB brew tour tapes ask around for a listen:

Title: Thick Ass Stout
Thick ass stout. Thick ass stout.
I gotta go up to your bartender, ask him for a glass of water down the side. As I would say... hey!
'Cause I'm thick ass stout ya'll.
Don't, don't get no further than this.
Talkin' 'bout, thinkin' 'bout stout.
Thick ass stout. Thick ass stout.
I gotta go up to your bartender, ask him for a glass of water down the side, I'll pass you round, and do the crazy round the bar.
Thick ass stout.
