Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 18:20:56 -0700
For Immediate Release
Washington Beer Commission presents
2nd Annual OKTOBERFEST
Friday, September 14th & Saturday, September 15th, 2007
Kenmore- The Washington Beer Commission is proud to present the 1st Annual Oktoberfest at Saint Edward State Park on September 14th and 15th, 2007. The Commission, the first one of its kind in the country, was formed earlier this year and has taken over all the festivals previously produced by the Washington Brewers Guild, in addition to a series of new ones of its own, since July 1st of this year. In carefully choosing the Commission’s very first festival, everyone was in agreement that there’s nothing more appropriate than an Oktoberfest, the most widely celebrated “beer holiday” in the world, to do the honor of introducing the Commission to the public. The Festival will stay true to the long tradition of the Oktoberfest which dates back to 1810- in a Washington style. The Festival will feature many Oktoberfest-themed beers by 30 Washington breweries in a big Oktoberfest-style tent decorated with hops and malt to add a local touch. The 2-day celebration will be complete with traditional German food and oompah music.
1st Annual Oktoberfest presented by the Washington Beer Commission
WHEN Friday, September 14th, 3-9pm & Saturday, September 15th, 1-9pm
WHERE Saint Edward State Park
14445 Juanita Dr. NE, Kenmore, WA 98028

3oz sample tastes are one token each. 12oz full tastes are three tokens each.
Happy hour—Friday 3-6pm, extra 2 tokens
Designated driver admission $5 and available at the gate only
21+ ONLY
THE TENT Staying true to the Oktoberfest tradition in Munich the event will be set under a big tent that will be the center of non-stop festivities. One side of the big Oktoberfest-style tent will be lined up with a table after a table of Washington breweries pouring their finest Oktoberfest beer. The tent, which will be decorate with hops and malt to give it some local character, is complete with the stage and seating area where guests can mingle and enjoy the beer.
BEER To pay homage to the long tradition of Oktoberfest first originated back in 1810, many brewers in Washington make an attempt to create their own renditions of the Oktoberfest beer every year- some stay true to the traditional smooth, malty lager, while others try to be more experimental by adding their own twists. At the Washington Beer Commission’s Oktoberfest guests can expect to sample many Oktoberfest-appropriate beers such as Oktoberfest, Marzen, other various German-style lagers and also harvest ales other fall seasonals from 30 Washington breweries, and see how we celebrate Oktoberfest in Washington.
MUSIC It’s no Oktoberfest without some oompah! The event will feature local acts everything from rock, blues and oompah all weekend long.

Words of wisdom from Fred Eckhardt and the Oregon Brew Crew listserv.
Message: 11

From: Fred Eckhardt
Subject: [Brewcrew] Do's and Don't w' a breatholyzer
Friends
At a homebrewer gathering in Kansas a few years ago I brought my then new (now dead) breatholyzer along. I had avoided any alcohol drinks for over 24 hours. I stood in front of the assembled drunken multitude and gave myself a breath test. Score 0.
Then, while they watched I consumed an 8-oz glass of Guinness (abv 4.3 or so).
I took an immediate breath test. Score .17 At .2, had I been stopped on the road I would have been too drunk to drive, and that would have been true if my score was 0.17, twice the .08 limit.
I waited 30-minutes longer and took another breath test: Score 0.03. Perfectly legal!
If you drink even a small amount and then leave the pub, you will show "too drunk" even if you just had a weak beer!
WHAT TO DO. If you have had only a single "drink" (12-oz beer, 1.5oz hard drink, 5oz 12% dinner wine, 3.5oz sake) wait a while before leaving.
BUT If you are fairly certain that you WON'T have too much alcohol in your system:
THEN insist to the police officer that you must be given a BLOOD
test. It won't hurt that much, and your blood alcohol is more likely to have a legal level by the time they get you to a blood tasting station. As near as I know, One can refuse a breath test and insist on a blood test legally. Under some circumstances it is the wise course of action.
Back in my KS trip, had I been driving from a bar with that 8-oz of Guinness inside my gullet, I'd have been arrested and probably
incarcerated, unless I demanded a blood test. Alcohol on my breath
(at 0.17) under those circumstances would have been 0.03 with a blood test, if it took them half an hour to get you to it, less if they did it in the police car -- would have been zero then because it couldn't get to your blood fast enough for it to register. Perfectly legal!
The police have been known to nail folks leaving a pub with a breath test, which could have been very bad had you simply been drinking two regular drinks, because you's still have it on your breath.
Always stay in the pub a while after your last drink, (and don't
forget the water either, drink some of that too).
Sorry to be so long winded.
Fred
Addendum to Fred's note. It appears that in Oregon State if you refuse a breathalyzer exam you're immediately subject to various fines and license suspensions. If anybody's interested in digging up the details of Washington's law let us know. In the meantime, be wary of that last sip as you head out the door from your favorite breweries or pubs.

"The More I Drink"
Album Name: Pure BS
He was sittin’ at the bar, sippin’ on a regular Coke
We were drinkin’ and smokin’ and makin’ him the butt of our jokes
We all said, “Man, what happened to you? Why can’t you just have a few?”
He said, “I would if I could, but it’s probably best that I don’t.”
Chorus- Cause the more I drink, the more I drink
Yeah, I’m the world’s greatest lover and a dancin’ machine
I get loud, I get proud....and it gets worse
Well if I have one, I’ll have thirteen
Naw, there ain’t no in-between
Cause, the more I drink, the more I drink.
A couple of cold ones, and somebody hands me a shot.
Hell, even buck-tooth and bow-legged women start lookin’ hot
And pretty soon I’m bummin’ cigarettes and sweet talkin’ some big brunette
Yeah, once I get on a roll, ain’t no tellin’ where I’ll stop
Chorus- Cause the more I drink, the more I drink
Yeah, I’m the world’s greatest lover and a dancin’ machine
I get loud, I get proud....and it gets worse
Well if I have one, I’ll have thirteen
Naw, there ain’t no in-between
Cause, the more I drink, the more I drink.
Yep-yep
Humm, that’s what I’m talking about
Man, if I have one, I’ll have thirteen
And they can’t get me off the kareoke machine,
The more I drink...the more I drink.
Yeah, the more I drink, the more I drink, the more I drink.

"Telephone Road"
Album name: El Corazon
My brother Jimmy, my other brother Jack
Went off down to Houston and they never come back
Mama wasn't gonna let her baby go yet
But there ain't nobody hirin' back in Lafayette
I'm workin' all week for the Texaco check
Sun beatin' down on the back of my neck
Tried to save my money but Jimmy says no
Says he's got a little honey on Telephone Road
Chorus:
Come on come on come on let's go
This ain't Louisianna
Your Mama won't know
Come on come on come on let's go
Everybody's rockin' out on Telephone Road
Telephone Road is ten miles long
Fifty car lots and a hundred honky-tonks
Jukebox blastin' and the beer bottles ring
Jimmy banging on a pinball machine
Chorus:
Come on come on come on let's go
This ain't Louisianna
Your Mama won't know
Come on come on come on let's go
Everybody's rockin' out on Telephone Road
Mama never told me about nothin' like this
I guess Houston's 'bout a big as a city can get
Sometimes I get lonesome for Lafayette
Someday I'm goin' home but I ain't ready yet
Chorus:
Come on come on come on let's go
This ain't Louisianna
Your Mama won't know
Come on come on come on let's go
Everybody's rockin' out on Telephone Road
