April 2009
Hi All,
The WSB April meeting will be hosted by Steve Moga at his place in Illahee:

Steve didn't declare any particular beer styles to focus on so bring whatever homebrew you have and any commercial brew you'd like to share.
As always, check our website for details, updates, blogs, photo galleries, newsletter archives, and the new calendar. Brad puts alot of work into it. Let him and the rest of the club know of any ways that it can be even more useful for us all.

2009 Big Brew Recipes
This year's Big Brew recipes are the tale of two AHA members whose homebrew recipes have gone on to be brewed by craft breweries.
Dave Levonian's award-winning Saison recipes have been brewed by Ballast Point Brewery for the 2008 Great American Beer Festival Pro-Am Competition, and by the Lost Abbey Brewery as one of the commemorative beers for the 2009 National Homebrewers Conference this June in Oakland, CA.
Jim Denier is an award-winning homebrewer who brought his Dark Mild recipe with him when he started brewing at Dry Dock Brewing Co. in Aurora, CO. The SS Minnow Mild Ale is a favorite at the brewery, and was a favorite with the 2008 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) judges too; it was the silver medal beer in the Session Beer category!
We hope you enjoy brewing this year’s Big Brew recipes! If you have any left, bring it with you to the National Homebrewers Conference in Oakland, CA this June to share!
BIG BREW FACTS-
2008 More than 10,500 gallons were brewed by almost 4000 participants at 242 sites on six continents worldwide. Sites were registered in 42 states in the US, as well as in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Israel, Kenya, The Netherlands, Russia, and Uryguay.
2007 Over 9000 gallons of homebrew brewed by more than 4000 participants at 242 sites on four continents worldwide. There were sites in 42 states, as well as Israel, Australia, Argentina, and Russia.
2005 7,347 gallons of homebrew brewed worldwide at 210 Big Brew sites by 2,956 participants.
2003 3,706 gallons of homebrew were produced at 157 Big Brew sites by 1,405 participants worldwide.
2001 5,185 gallons of beer were brewed at 182 brewing sites by 1,864 participants worldwide.
You should try and pick up a copy of this quarter's Beer NW Magazine if you can. Their website says they send copies to Hood Canal Brewery and I think I remember picking one up there. I don't see any other Kitsap hop spots listed on their site.
This issue has loads of interesting stuff, though some pieces can be a bit on the lite side. The late great Bob Allen is prominently mentioned in a piece about his brother's brewery, Heater Allen, in McMinnville, OR. There are pieces on farmhouse ales, and on starting a brewery. There's a big piece by Sean Paxton on seasonal beer dinners. There's a piece on pairing beer with Mexican food with Cinco de Mayo around the bend. Another article features Belgium's "Extreme" beers, i.e. lambics. An extensive feature covers traditional English brewing, i.e. the Burton Union system, and Firestone Walker's take on it.
Each issue has been getting better, and it's all glossy high clay content paper so you don't have to try to ignore the newsprint smell as you drink your beer and peruse the mag. I'll try to remember to bring a copy or two to the next meetings.
National Homebrew Competition
Wednesday, March 25, 2009 12:46 PM
The deadline to enter beers in the National Homebrew Competition is fast approaching. Entries are being accepted between March 25 & April 8, and the NW Region shipping/dropoff location is F. H. Steinbart in Portland. Go here for details: http://www.beertown.org/events/nhc/entry.html
There are at least a few options for getting your beers to the dropoff point:
1. Bill Sproules at Olybrew has agreed to collect entries and he'll drop them at F. H. Steinbart on his regularly scheduled run down there for supplies on April 2. Entries need to be dropped off at Olybrew before closing on April 1 (that's next Wednesday). Bill has asked that they be dropped off as close to April 1 as possible.
2. The Washington Homebrewers Association is collecting entries at Larry's Brewing Supply in Kent, and they will be driven down to Portland by a volunteer member of the association. The deadline to drop off beers at Larry's is April 3. Here are the details from WAHA:
National Homebrewing Competition Drop in Seattle
In order to help promote Washngton's participation in the 2009 National Homebrewers Competition, the Washington Homebrewers Association and several local homebrewers have helped organize a local drop location and transportation for entries down for the first round of the NHC in Portland.
All you need to do is drop your packaged entries off down at Larry's Brewing Supply before 7:00 pm on April 3rd (please note that this is not the mail-in deadline for the NHC - April 8th). Once you've registered your entries using the online entry system (make sure to follow all of the NHC Rules), package up your entries for the trip (they still will be jostled around a bit so make sure to package them well). Then just drop them off at Larry's Brewing Supply. To help cover food and gas costs for the drivers, we ask that you attach an envelope to your box of entries (on the outside) with about $0.50 or so per entry.
There may be a chance to also drop off some entries at the Exbeerience on April 4th. Check back to this website for updates.
Let's bring home some metal for Washington!
3. You can ship your beers. Check out http://www.beertown.org/events/nhc/entry.html for details
4. You can drop your beers off at F. H. Steinbart. See the link above for the address and other info.
No matter how you plan to get your beers to Portland, you must register online at http://www.brewingcompetition.com/NHC/nhc.php, pay for your entries, and print out label(s) for your beer(s) prior to dropping off or shipping your beers.

"Beer Hunter" Michael Jackson Tribute Book's U.S. Launch Party
Thursday, 19 March 2009 12:47
Fans of Michael Jackson, the world's foremost expert on beer and whisky before his untimely death in August 2007, will gather to celebrate the launch of "Beer Hunter, Whisky Chaser," a book of original essays by 13 of his colleagues. The international book launch takes place in Chicago, London, Austria and the Netherlands on Friday, March 27, which would have been the writer's 67th birthday. All proceeds from the publication, which was supported by leading single malt whisky The Glenlivet, will be donated to the Parkinson's Disease Society of the UK. Jackson suffered from the disease for over a decade leading up to his death.
Chicago, IL March 19, 2009 - Fans of Michael Jackson, the world's foremost expert on beer and whisky before his untimely death in August 2007, will gather at Delilah's, 2771 N. Lincoln Ave., to celebrate the launch of Beer Hunter, Whisky Chaser, a book of original essays by 13 of his colleagues. The international book launch takes place in Chicago, London, Austria and the Netherlands on Friday, March 27, which would have been the writer's 67th birthday.
Delilah's, which Jackson himself dubbed one of the "most important bars in America," will kick-off the U.S. celebration at 4 p.m., to include a ceremonial toast at 7 p.m. and a meet and greet with two of the book's three female contributors: Julie Johnson, editor of All About Beer Magazine; and, Lucy Saunders, author of The Best of American Beer and Food, editor of beercook.com, and a member at-large of the Glunz Beer Culinary Council of Louis Glunz Beer, Inc., a Lincolnwood, Ill.-based beer distributor.
Jackson helped introduce Belgian beers to the U.S. and also gave rise to the North American craft brewery movement, by identifying beers by their flavors and styles and by educating fellow beer-lovers about pairing beer and food. He authored a series of books that were published in 18 languages, including The World Guide to Beer, The Great Beers of Belgium, and the Malt Whisky Companion, and hosted a TV series, "The Beer Hunter," which popularized his nickname, and was shown in 15 countries. Among his many honors were a 2006 James Beard award, and the "Master of the Quaich."
"We're honored to support this unique tribute to Michael Jackson, who was passionate in his pursuit of exceptional beer and a champion of beer education," said Jennifer Faulk, director of marketing for Glunz Beer and Culinary Council attaché. "As the premier beer distributor that brings the world of imports, specialties and micros to the kitchens of Chicagoland's top chefs, we hope to continue Jackson's legacy by promoting the growth of the beer and food pairing trend through expos, tasting classes, and training."
Editor Ian Buxton, who conceived the Beer Hunter, Whisky Chaser project, said: "Michael Jackson dominated the world of both beer and whisky writing for two decades and was hugely influential in both 'real ale' and single malt whisky. A complete generation of writers has cause to be grateful to him, not to mention countless brewers and distillers. We have sought to honor Michael with words, fresh and new writing on beer and whisky that he would have enjoyed reading, that he would have respected, and that he might even have wished to written himself."
In addition to Johnson and Saunders, the other leading international writers on beer and whisky who donated a new piece of writing to Beer Hunter, Whisky Chaser, are: Stephen Beaumont, Dave Broom, Ian Buxton, John Hansell, Charles MacLean, Hans Offringa, F. Paul Pacult, Roger Protz, Conrad Seidl, Carolyn Smagalski, and Gavin D. Smith.
Beer Hunter, Whisky Chaser will be available for purchase on-site at Delilah's for $18.99 plus tax and through www.beerables.net, "The Accessory Store for the Beer Enthusiast," while supplies last. All proceeds from the publication, which was supported by leading single malt whisky The Glenlivet, will be donated to the Parkinson's Disease Society of the UK. Jackson suffered from the disease for over a decade leading up to his death.

Black Raven's first beer is called Batch One Brown Porter. This tasty treat is not one of the standard beers but it could be if folks really dig it. A note from venerable Uber bartender Ken:
Well it's 2009 and the weather is terrible and the bike riding is miserable, but the beer is tasting better than ever. Much like taxes and erectile dysfunction, spring weather is inevitable. What better way to embrace this change than with a little bike ride?
I would like to personally invite you all to join me Sunday May 3rd for the 2009 Bike and Brew Spring Invitational.

Home Brew Fever
Home brew fever's got a hold on me
I'm shakin' so bad I can barely see
Home brew fever leave me alone
Done took my wife took my home
Well I wish I'd listened to my daddy
When he told me not to mess with Satan's brew
Two best of friends I ever had
If you don't keep clean it'll get you too
Well ever since I lit up my still
My hair is gettin' worse every day
Seems I can never get my fill
But I sure wish I could hear what those poor boys play
Home brew fever's got a hold on me
I'm shakin' so bad I can barely see
Home brew fever leave me alone
Done took my wife took my home
Well time's gettin' harder can't find no job
See money just ain't comin' in
I'm too tired to run too proud to beg
But I sure wish I could start all over again
Last week I got a visit from a government man
And he was lookin' for my old still
Well I filled him full of buckshot with my shotgun
All I gotta do now is grab my jug and run
Home brew fever's got a hold on me
I'm shakin' so bad I can barely see
Home brew fever leave me alone
Done took my wife took my home
02 Uncle Tupelo - Moonshiner.mp3
Uncle Tupelo
Moonshiner
I've been a moonshiner
for seventeen long years
and I spent all my money
on whiskey and beer
and I go to some hollow
and set up my still
if whiskey don't kill me
Lord, I don't know what will
and I go to some barroom
to drink with my friends
where the women they can't follow
to see what I spend
God bless them pretty women
I wish they were mine
with breath as sweet as
the dew on the vine
let me eat when I'm hungry
let me drink when I'm dry
two dollars when I'm hard up
religion when I die
the whole world is a bottle
and life is but a dram
when the bottle gets empty
Lord, it sure ain't worth a damn
03 Chris Cagle - Hey Y'all.mp3
Chris Cagle
Hey Y'all
I pulled up to a cattle guard
Got out, opened up the gate
I drove down a long dirt road
To the banks of an old two-acre lake
They had bonfires and barbed wire
Fresh caught catfish in the deep fryer
I jumped out my truck and I said, "It's on."
And everybody sang
Hey ya'll, break out the beer, turn the Skynyrd on
Hey ya'll, how ya doin'?
Whatcha doin'?
Hey ya'll, we ain't leavin' 'til they call the law
Hey ya'll, hey ya'll, hey ya'll come on
A cloud of dust came rollin' in
Blue lights flashin', there were ten of them
Sheriff Harper and all o' his boys
Said all they had to do was just follow the noise
He dropped his gun, and then his star
Reached in his cruiser, pulled out his guitar
Said, "Officer, what have we done wrong?"
He just smiled at me and said, nothin' at all, singin'
Hey ya'll break out the beer, turn the Skynyrd on
Hey ya'll whatcha doin'? how ya' doin'?
Hey ya'll, crank it up, we ain't never goin' home
Hey ya'll,
Hey ya'll, Hey ya'll watch this
See that girl over there lookin' fine
Well, I betcha by morning I can make her mine
Everybody sang
Hey ya'll, break out the beer, turn the Skynyrd on
Hey ya'll whatcha doin'?
Baby, how'm I doin?
Hey ya'll, we ain't leavin' 'til the law goes home
Hey ya'll, hey ya'll, hey ya'll come on.
Hey ya'll, hey ya'll, hey ya'll...
04 Chris Ledoux - Cadillac Ranch.mp3
Chris Ledoux
Cadillac Ranch
Well the well went dry and the cow did too
Daddy didn't know what to do
The banker came by the house one day
Said he's gonna take the farm away
And momma came up with a plan
Brother and me started up a band
Sister put a sign on the roof
And daddy bought a case of ninety-proof
Now we call it the Cadillac Ranch
They're parking cars in the old pea patch
There's a bar in the barn and the place stays packed
'Til the cows come home at Cadillac Ranch
Now the only thing that we raise is Cain
You don't need the sun or rain
Just neon lights and some ice cold beer
Keeps everything real around here
Momma takes the cash at the door
Brother and me keep 'em out on the floor
Sister sets them up at the bar
And daddy kicks back with a big cigar
Now we call it the Cadillac Ranch
They're parking cars in the old pea patch
There's a bar in the barn and the place stays packed
'Til the cows come home at Cadillac Ranch
Well we gave all the cows away
Now the only horns around here today
Are the ones up on the grille
Of a genuine '59 Coupe DeVille
Now we call it the Cadillac Ranch
They're parking cars in the old feed patch
There's a bar in the barn and the place stays packed
'Til the cows come home at Cadillac Ranch
Now we call it the Cadillac Ranch
They're parking cars in the old feed patch
There's a bar in the barn and the place stays packed
'Til the cows come home at Cadillac Ranch

Jerry Lee Lewis
What's Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made A Loser Out Of Me)
It's late and she's waiting and I know I should go home
But every time I start to leave they play another song
Then someone buys another round and wherever drinks are free
What's made Milwaukee famous has made a fool out of me
Baby's begged me not to go so many times before
She says love and happiness can't live behind those swingin' doors
Now she's gone and I'm to blame too late I finally see
What's made Milwaukee famous has made a loser out of me
Baby's begged me not to go so many times before
She says love and happiness just can't live behind those swingin' doors
Nows she's gone and I'm to blame too late I finally see
What's made Milwaukee famous has made a loser out of me

Waylon Jennings
Out of Jail
I sat at a bar having a beer
Trying to hold down the stool
When a stranger walked in stood there beside me
And plopped down there like a fool.
He started drinking then he started talking
About things that were wrong in his life
The more that I heard the more I believed
The thing that was wrong was his wife.
'Cause this is what he had to say-
You talk about beauty when we first met
She was all a man could desire
Talk about love one night with her
Would set your very soul on fire.
But love's little flame is out of control
About three feet high from behind
Ever since we've been married well, I've come to believe
Love's for the dumb and the blind.
'Cause you talk about ugly, when she gets mad
She goes from Jekill to Hyde.
She grits her teeth and her eyes roll back
And pivot from side to side.
She completely rewrites the whole English language
Descriptive four lettered and loud.
Now I can't out think her but I can sure out drink her
That's what I'm doing here now.
I've spent seven years with the wrong woman
Seven and goin' on eight
She spent seven years naggin' and eatin'
I'm overwrought and she's overweight.
If I try leavin' she has me arrested
And takes her own sweet time gettin' me out
If she ain't number one she's in the top two
Of things that I could live without.
Men commit murder and all kinds of mayhem
In a few years they're back on the streets,
Highway robbery and white collar crime
And they laugh at the system they beat.
Sometimes I'm tempted sometimes I'm ashamed
Of the things that the law will allow.
I could have killed her when I first met her
And I'd have been out of jail by now.
I could have killed her when we first met
And I'd have been out of jail by now.

Workin' Man Blues
It's a big job gettin' by with nine kids and a wife
Yeah, I been a workin' man dang near all my life
I'll keep on working long as my two hands are fit to use
I drink my beer at a tavern,
And sing a little bit of these workin' man blues
I keep my nose on the grindstone, work hard every day
Get tight on the weekend, after I draw my pay
But Il go back workin, come Monday morning I'm right back with the crew
I drink a little beer that evening,
Sing a little bit of these workin' man blues
Hey hey, the working man, the workin' man like me
I ain't never been on welfare, that's one place I won't be
Cause I'll be working long as my two hands are fit to use
I drink a little beer in a tavern
Sing a little bit of these workin' man blues
Sometimes I think about leaving, do a little bumminaround
Throw my bills out the window catch a train to another town
But I go back working I gotta buy my kids a brand new pair of shoes
I drink my beer at a tavern,
And cry a little bit of these workin' man blues
Well hey hey, the working man, the working man like me
Ain't never been on welfare, that's one place I won't be
Cause he'll be working long as his two hands are fit to use
Might drink a little beer at a tavern
Sing a little bit of them working man blues
This song's for the workin' man
09 Memphis Slim - Beer Drinkin Woman.mp3
Beer Drinkin' Woman
by Peter Chatman a.k.a. Memphis Slim
Now I walked into a beer tavern
To give a girl a nice time.
When I entered I had forty-five dollars
When I left I had one dime.
Wasn't that a beer drinkin' woman?
Don't you know, man don't you know,
She was a beer drinkin' woman,
I don't want to see her no more.
Now when I spent down to my last dime
She says, "Daddy I know you're not through."
I told her, "Yes, baby doll
and the diploma belongs to you."
Wasn't that a beer drinkin' woman?
Don't you know, man don't you know,
She was a beer drinkin' woman
And I don't want to see her no more.
She would often say, "Excuse me a minute,
I've got to step around here."
And every time she'd come back
She'd say, "I want another quart of beer."
Wasn't that a beer drinkin' woman?
Don't you know, man don't you know
Boy, she was the toughest I met.
Lord, she was a beer drinkin' woman
I don't want to see her no more.
I say, "I've got to step off baby,
Anything else you would like?"
She said, "Daddy I'll keep this table,
If you promise me you'll be back."
You know that was a beer drinkin' woman,
Don't you know, man don't you know.
She was a beer drinkin' woman
I don't wanna see her no more.
I says, "I'm sorry baby, but I only have one more dime."
She said, "Daddy buy me a small bottle of beer,
So I can concentrate my mind."
Wasn't that a beer drinkin' woman?
Don't you know, man don't you know,
Lord, she was a beer drinkin' woman.
I don't wanna see her no more.

Drinking Beer (Have A Ball)
Let's have a party an' drink up a lot of beer
Let's have a party an' drink up a lot of beer
Yes, wine is fine but, give me lots of beer
Wanna drink some beer, and share some tears this mornin'
Gonna drink some beer 'til the rooster crows at dawnin'
Well, wine is fine but, give me lots of beer
(Drinkin' beer)
Well, early in the evenin'
(Drinkin' beer)
Well, in the afternoon
(Drinkin' beer)
Yes, in the mornin'
(Drinkin' beer)
Yeah, in the spring
Wine is fine but give me lots of beer
Now light beer is right beer
Dark beer's real gone, too
You drink too much ale, you get put in jail
So I think I'll stick to homebrew
Drink beer in the mornin', had a little stout
A little stout'll make you poke way out
Drink it by the case an' order some more
Call all the neighbors, they're right next door!
Well, in the evenin', drinkin' beer
In the afternoon
Well, in the mornin'
Yes, in the spring
Wine is fine but give me lots of beer!

Lager or stout well there ain't no doubt

Well drinkin' too much beer can put you on the floor
but if I drink up all my homebrew I just brew up some more
I drink homebrew (homebrew)
I drink homebrew (homebrew)
I just can't cut loose without some of my juice
I drink homebrew (homebrew) hoy, hoy, hoy
You talk about light beer it don't mean a thing
It might not fill me up but it'll never make me sing
Like homebrew (homebrew)
Like homebrew (homebrew)
I make it perfectly clear I drink homemade beer
I drink homebrew (homebrew)
Well everybody talkin' 'bout the beer they love to drink
Let me give you somethin' that I brewed in my sink

Rory Gallagher
Barley and Grape Rage
Well I don't care if I get arrested
'Cos tonight they'll need more than a ball and chain
I don't care who's interested,
I'm coming into town just the same
I've been so alone, I've been feeling blue,
I think I need a little beer or two,
Be my friend, tell me where that place is
Where the whiskey flows and the dices roll till dawn?
My baby's done me wrong you must have guessed it,
My heart's so low I think it must be told
That I don't want to know where East or West is
'Cos pretty soon I won't feel the cold.
When I'm walking down mainstreet, feeling no pain
Along comes a cop, he can take my name
And explain to me what a federal case is,
I'm mixing the barley with the grape again
Bright city lights, make me feel alright,
I'm right or wrong and tomorrow never comes.
I don't care if I get investigated
And the city fathers they all black my name.
I'm pretty sure that you can smell the traces,
For tomorrow morning, I'll take all the blame.
I've been feeling bad and feeling blue
I think I need a little whiskey or two,
God, brother, you look like you could do with it too
(That's true)
Tonight I'll sleep on a walking cane
Bright city lights, make me feel alright,
I'm right or wrong and tomorrow never comes.
I don't care if I get arrested
Cause tonight they'll need more than a ball and chain.
I don't care whose interested,
I'm coming into town just the same
I've been feeling alone and I've been feeling blue.
I think I need a little drink or two.
Hey be my friend, tell me where that place is
Where the whiskey flows and the dices roll till dawn

Beer bottle mama, you're the gal for me
Beer bottle mama, you suit me to a T
Now you love beer and I love gin
With the two together we're bound to win
Beer bottle mama, you're the one for me
Just the other day, I stopped at a cabaret
I heard a barfly say to a barfly cross the way
Beer bottle mama, you're the gal for me
Beer bottle mama, you suit me to a T
Now you love beer and I love gin
With the two together we're bound to win
Beer bottle mama, you're the one for me

Im Not in Here for Love (Just Yer Beer)
-Parody of "I'm Not In Here For Love" by Shania Twain
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAooooo
(sound of falling beer cans)
A-B-C-D
Are you gonna drink the rest of that beer?
Sorry I fell down
But it's my thirteenth round
WHOO
Been drinkin' kamikaze shooters
And Royal Crown
And that Boone's Farm wine
Oh it gets me every time
Point me towards the payphone
I gotta call her at home
I begged 'em pretty please
For a Bacardi Breeze
(Just one)
They just said, "You're cut off,"
And took away my car keys.
"You done fell off the bar
Can't have you driving your car
With all the cops around this town
You wouldn't get too far."
Uh...Is it too much to ask
Can you fill up my glass?
No I'm not in here for love.
I may start to swilling
To drink up what you've got.
No I don't care if you're his wife
Cause I ain't lookin' for love.
So I'm beggin' you dear
Don't have me thrown out of here.
I'm not in here for love, just a beer.
Babe I can rock your world.
That is if I don't hurl.
Show you a thing or two
For a sip of your brew.
Don't make a grown man whine.
I'm in a bit of a bind.
Oh the backwash of your Miller Lite
Oh it tastes so fine.
You see I don't care if you think I'm weird.
No I'm not in here for love
Lady.
I may start to swilling
To drink up all you got.
I don't care if you're his wife
Cause I'm not looking for love.
You see I skipped AA tonight.
No I'm not looking for love,
Just a beer.
Oh...Ooh
Oh God...I gotta hurry
Aaah...where's the door...oh...

15 James Taylor - Sweet Baby James.mp3
James Taylor
Sweet Baby James
There is a young cowboy he lives on the range
His horse and his cattle are his only companions
He works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyons
Waiting for Summer, his pastures to change
And as the moon rises he sits by his fire
Thinking about women and glasses of beer
And closing his eyes as the dogies retire
He sings out a song which is soft but it's clear
As if maybe someone could hear
(Chorus)
Goodnight you moonlight ladies
Rockabye sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams
And rockabye sweet baby James
Now the first of December was covered with snow
And so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston
Lord, the Berkshires seemed dream-like on account of that frostin'
With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go
There's a song that they sing when they take to the highway
A song that they sing when they take to the sea
A song that they sing of their home in the sky
Maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep
But singing works just fine for me
So goodnight you moonlight ladies
Rockabye sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams
And rockabye sweet baby James

Tim McGraw
My Next 30 Years
I think I'll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now it's time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord have mercy on my next thirty years
Hey my next thirty years I'm gonna have some fun
Try to forget about all the crazy things I've done
Maybe now I've conquered all my adolescent fears
And I'll do it better in my next thirty years
My next thirty years I'm gonna settle all the scores
Cry a little less, laugh a little more
Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear
Figure out just what I'm doing here
In my next thirty years
Oh my next thirty years, I'm gonna watch my weight
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers, ha
Maybe I'll remember my next thirty years
My next thirty years will be the best years of my life
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here, in my next thirty years
In my next thirty years

Beer And Bones
(writers: Sanger D. Shafer/Lonnie Williams)
I ain't nothin' but beer and bones
Honey since I lost you
I ain't ate a bite
Since the night
That you said we're through
I walked to that jukebox to play
A few sad country songs
I heard someone say
Hey that old boy
Ain't nothin' but beer and bones
I got to work this morning
Early this afternoon
Yeah my boss man nudged me
Said son I need to talk to you
You used to make me money
But lately I been taking a loss
Well he smelled my breath
Gave me what was left
Of the day off
I ain't nothin' but beer and bones
Honey since I lost you
I ain't ate a bite
Since the night
That you said we're through
I walked to that jukebox to play
A few sad country songs
I heard someone say
Hey that old boy
Ain't nothin' but beer and bones
Well I wish I could go home
And rest my weary head
But I know I'll just stay here
And have another beer instead
That little waitress asked me
Honey could you use some help
I said I thank you miss
I'll have to get through this
By myself
I ain't nothin' but beer and bones
Honey since I lost you
I ain't ate a bite
Since the night
That you said we're through
I walked to that jukebox to play
A few sad country songs
I heard someone say
Hey that old boy
Ain't nothin' but beer and bones
I heard someone say
Hey that old boy

18 David Kersh - One Good Reason.mp3
Artist: David Kersh
Song: One Good Reason
Album: Goodnight Sweetheart
When I came to this morning she was packing up her things.
Even with my pounding head I could hear her call me names.
"You don't work, and drink and fish and dance and party-loving fool."
Rolled off her tongue and all I could say was, "Baby think it through."
And give me one good reason why you wanna leave me
You know I love you baby just calm down and take it easy
Lay down here beside me
Ain't no need for quick decisions
Before you throw all this away
Give me one good reason
She said, "You ain't brought a flower into this house in years.
Your gift to me last Valentine's was a case of your favorite beer.
Did I forget to mention I can't stand the sight of you?"
I said, "Don't sugar coat it baby, you know I can take the truth."
Give me one good reason why you wanna leave me
You know I love you baby just calm down and take it easy
Lay down here beside me
Ain't no need for quick decisions
Before you throw all this away
Give me one good reason
Give me one good reason why you wanna leave me
You know I love you baby just calm down and take it easy
Lay down here beside me
Ain't no need for quick decisions
Before you throw all this away
Give me one good reason

Beer or Gasoline
Two dollars shy of a five dollar bill
Last mile I pushed my truck uphill
About hurt me
I left my truck by the pump right where I parked it
Walked through the doors of the Last Chance Market
Have mercy, I was thirsty
The guy behind the counter said what's it gonna be
I said I don't know man, you tell me
It's a gallon of gas, or a cold six pack
One goes in my tank, one comes in a sack
Makes life complicated when it costs the same
Hell it ain't no fun, to do without one
But I'll do a lot of walkin' if my motor don't run
It's a tough ol' choice to make if you know what I mean
It's either beer or gasoline
I could feel that video camera watch me
Checkin' out the sale on the Old Milwaukee
(Mmm) Three bucks to my name
That cooler had every brand known to man
Tall boys, bottles, and aluminum cans
(Aww) What a shame
And it's gettin' pretty bad when you finally discover
It all comes down to either one or the other
It's a gallon of gas, or a cold six pack
One goes in my tank, one comes in a sack
Makes life complicated when it costs the same
Hell it ain't no fun, to do without one
But I'll do a lot of walkin' if my motor don't run
It's a tough ol' choice to make if you know what I mean
It's either beer or gasoline
I could see where this is headed
And I'm tired of talkin'
A cold beer unleaded
Hell I'm walkin'
It's a gallon of gas, or a cold six pack
One goes in my tank, one comes in a sack
Makes life complicated when it costs the same
Hell it ain't no fun, to do without one
But I'll do a lot of walkin' if my motor don't run

Better Than This
That sleepy little campfire, popped and kinda crackled.
We were heating up the pork and beans.
And Bubba said, "Man it don't get any better than this.
If you know what I mean."
We sat there for a minute, listening to the crickets,
thinking this was pretty hard to beat
'til Junior stood up, spit in the fire and said,
"Boys, I hate to disagree.
(Chorus 1)
But if a busload of women, really good looking women
just suddenly pulled in here,
and ol' Joe T. Garcia showed up with fajitas,
and a hundred gallon keg of beer,
and Haggard dropped by and brought Willie with him,
and they started taking requests.
Well don't get me wrong boys, this is pretty good,
but it could get better than this.
If Bill Dance and Hank Parker floated by in a boat,
and volunteered to be our fishing guides,
and Richard Petty pulled up in the old 43 car,
and asked us if we wanted a ride.
We'd all sit around singing "Poncho and Lefty"
playing poker, smoking big cigars.
Now don't take offense ya'll.
I'm perfectly content.
Just sitting here under the stars.
(Chorus 2)
But if a busload of women, really good looking women
just suddenly pulled in here,
and ol' Emeril Lagasse showed up with kielbasa,
and a hundred gallon keg of beer,
and Haggard dropped by and brought Willie with him,
and they started taking requests.
Now don't get me wrong boys, this is pretty good,
but it could get better than this.
(Chorus 3)
But if a busload of women, really good looking women
just suddenly pulled in here,
and Little Jimmy Dickens showed up with fried chicken,
and a hundred gallon keg of beer,
Merle Haggard dropped by and brought Willie with him,
and they started taking requests.
Don't get me wrong boys, this is pretty good,
but it could get better than this.
Yeah don't get me wrong boys.
This is pretty good.
But it could get better than this."

These Are My People
Well we grew up down by the railroad Tracks
shootin BB's at old beer cans
chokin' on the smoke from a Lucky Strike
somebody lifted off his old man
We were football flunkies
Southern Rock junkies
Crankin' up the stereos
Singin' Loud and Proud
to "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man", and "Curtis Lowe".
We were good ya know.
Got some discount jnowledge at the Jr. Collage
Where we majored in beer and girls
It was all real funny 'til we ran out of money
and they threw us out into the world
Yeah the kids that thought they'd run this town
ain't a runnin' much of anything
just lovin' and laughin' and bustin' our asses
and we call it all livin' the dream
These are my people
This is where I come from
Were givin' this life everything we've got and then some
It ain't always pretty
But it's real
It's the way we were made
Wouldn't have it any other way
These are my people
Well we take it all week on the chin with a grin
'til we make it to a Friday night
And it's church league softball
holler about a bad call
preacher breaking up a fight
Then later on at the Green Light Tavern
Well everybody is gathered as friends
And the beers a pourin'
'til Monday mornin'
and we start it all over again
These are my people
This is where I come from
We're givin' this life everything we've got and then some
It ain't always pretty
but it's real
It's the way we were made
Wouldn't have it any other way
These Are My People
We fall down and we get up
We walk proud and we talk tough
We got heart and we got nerve
Even if we are a bit disturbed
Woo
come on
These are my people
This is where I come from
We're givin' this life everything we've got and then some
It ain't always pretty
but it's real
It's the way we were made
Wouldn't have it any other way ah naw
These are my people
yeah

22 Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland.mp3
Bruce Springsteen
Jungleland
The Rangers had a homecoming in Harlem late last night
And the Magic Rat drove his sleek machine over the Jersey state line
Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge
Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The Rat pulls into town rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance and disappear down Flamingo Lane
Well the maximum lawman run down Flamingo chasing the Rat and the barefoot girl
And the kids round here look just like shadows always quiet, holding hands
From the churches to the jails tonight all is silence in the world
As we take our stand
Down in Jungleland
The midnight gang's assembled and picked a rendezvous for the night
They'll meet 'neath that giant Exxon sign that brings this fair city light
Man there's an opera out on the Turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cops, cherry tops, rip this holy night
The street's alive as secret debts are paid
Contacts made, they vanish unseen
Kids flash guitars just like switchblades hustlin' for the record machine
The hungry and the hunted explode into rock'n'roll bands
That face off against each other out in the street
Down in Jungleland
In the parking lot the visionaries dress in the latest rage
Inside the backstreet girls are dancing to the records that the D.J. plays
Lonely-hearted lovers struggle in dark corners
Desperate as the night moves on, just one look and a whisper, 'n they're gone
Beneath the city two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender
In a bedroom locked in whispers of soft refusal and then surrender
In the tunnels uptown the Rat's own dream guns him down as shots echo down them hallways in the night
No one watches when the ambulance pulls away
Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light
Outside the street's on fire in a real death waltz
Between what's flesh and what's fantasy and the poets down here
Don't write nothing at all, they just stand back and let it all be
And in the quick of the night they reach for their moment
And try to make an honest stand
But they wind up wounded, not even dead
Tonight in Jungleland
