May 2009
Hi All,
Our meeting for May takes place on Saturday, May 2, at the Wyatts' about 3 miles north of Poulsbo. I'm assuming they'll let us set up for brewing as early as 9AM since the international Big Toast takes place at 10AM. We'll let you know if otherwise in our reminder mailing next week.
Don will be firing up the grill(s) so bring whatever you'd like to grill, snacks, and easy to serve potluck dishes.
This is also Big Brew 2009, see details below. If you're interested in checking out fellow brewers' systems, techniques, and ingredients, or if you just want to hang with fellow brewers, or if you just can't get enough of the smell of boiling hops and malt, don't miss this event.
Contact Us for directions.
Since our meeting is so early in May we're considering arranging a Seattle and/or Tacoma area pub crawl(s) later in May, perhaps in association with some Seattle Beer Week events. Come to Big Brew and express your interests.

2009 Big Brew Recipes
This year's Big Brew recipes are the tale of two AHA members whose homebrew recipes have gone on to be brewed by craft breweries.
Dave Levonian's award-winning Saison recipes have been brewed by Ballast Point Brewery for the 2008 Great American Beer Festival Pro-Am Competition, and by the Lost Abbey Brewery as one of the commemorative beers for the 2009 National Homebrewers Conference this June in Oakland, CA.
Jim Denier is an award-winning homebrewer who brought his Dark Mild recipe with him when he started brewing at Dry Dock Brewing Co. in Aurora, CO. The SS Minnow Mild Ale is a favorite at the brewery, and was a favorite with the 2008 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) judges too; it was the silver medal beer in the Session Beer category!
We hope you enjoy brewing this year’s Big Brew recipes! If you have any left, bring it with you to the National Homebrewers Conference in Oakland, CA this June to share!

A note from venerable Uber bartender Ken:
Well it's 2009 and the weather is terrible and the bike riding is miserable, but the beer is tasting better than ever. Much like taxes and erectile dysfunction, spring weather is inevitable. What better way to embrace this change than with a little bike ride?
I would like to personally invite you all to join me Sunday May 3rd for the 2009 Bike and Brew Spring Invitational.

UBER TAVERN - KEGS TO GO
After our monstrous kick-off the night before, we gotta come big to follow that up, right? Well then:
ON WEDNESDAY MAY 13 AT ÜBER TAVERN, PLEASE JOIN US FOR:
AN EVENING WITH BREW MASTER RON GANSBERG AND CASCADE BREWERY
To say this will be a night of rarities is an understatement. This will be Ron's first-ever visit to Über, and he's pulling out all the stops.
If you've ever visited him at the Raccoon Lodge in Portland, you know what we're talking about. Arguably one of America's foremost brewers & blenders of barrel-aged sour ales, almost everything you taste at his brewery is incredibly rare and amazingly good. Whatever it is, you've probably never had it before and you'll be lucky to have it again one day.
The reason we bring this up is because some of the beers we will be featuring on this night will be the first time they've been outside the brewery, so we can only tell you so much about them. Plus we hear he carries a "bag of tricks" so who knows what he will open up to taste? And we hear he travels with a band of psychos.
But here's what we DO know:
ON TAP:
CASCADE SANG ROYAL:
A big blend of single and "double reds" aged in wet Port barrels, blended with a barrel containing 110 lbs of Bing Cherries for six months. So rare, we believe the only people who have tasted it are Jesus, Elvis, and Jimmy Hoffa. There is 1 rating for it on ratebeer.com but we're pretty sure it's a hoax.
CASCADE SANG NOIR:
A single very small batch of beer made exclusively for the Holiday Ale Festival in Portland, this is a 9.5% sour "Double Red", portions of which were aged in both Pinot Noir & Whiskey barrels, with fresh Bing Blood Cherries added later to yet another portion, then refermented for 3 months before final blending. This one-time beer was blended by "Drie Zwarte Pieten", the 3 Black Peters: Ron Gansberg, assistant head brewer Curtis Bain, and "Mr. Holiday Ale Fest", Preston Weesner. This beer is damn near flawless.
CASCADE VLAD THE IMPALER
A 9.5% wild-yeast blended beer, consisting of Ron's Belgian Strong Blonde and a beer he calls P-Quad (for Pale Quadruppel). Together they make Vlad, a beer that we would have on tap at our bar until the doors close for good one day...if we could only get it. This is simply a masterpiece and a great introduction to full-bodied, sophisticated traditional sour ales.
CASCADE MOUTON ROUGE
This is Ron's classic (and authentic) 7.5% Flanders Red. It is a blend of barrels with up to 16 months of oak barrel lactic fermentation and oak barrel aging. Dark fruit, sour, oak and funk flavors sweep over your taste buds like an incoming tide.
Then there's the ubiquitous bag of tricks we might roll out, one bottle at a time.
Chances are good we will STILL have both Russian River Consecration & Deschutes The Dissident on tap also, if you'd like to try them all side-by-side.
And you better believe we'll have another complimentary cheese & salami pairing to go with these beers. How could you not?
Doors open at 4pm, all beers on tap when we open.
We don't have prices yet but we will be featuring all of our Cascade beers on special for this night only. Details to come on our website.
As for Ron? He comes when he comes and he goes when he goes. 6pm is a good guess though.
See you under the bar,
Your Friends at Über Tavern

UBER TAVERN - KEGS TO GO
Last year on 4/20 was one of the greatest nights at Über:
"Smoke em if ya got em: An Evening With Lagunitas"
When Lagunitas Brewery owner Tony Magee showed up at our tavern last spring, little did we know he was a baddass bluegrass musician. But he played. Man did he play. So when we heard he'll be back in town this May, how could we resist?
Sure we're off a by a few weeks this year, but please join us on Thursday May 14th for:
LAGUNITAS NIGHT AT ÜBER TAVERN, FEATURING THE MUSIC OF TONY MAGEE
ON TAP:
All pints just $3, KEEP THE GLASS, all night
Lagunitas Hop Stoopid
Lagunitas Pils
Lagunitas Vintage 2008 Olde Gnarly Wine
You read that right, $3 pints of vintage Olde Gnarly Wine & Hop Stoopid. It's not that we want you to get drunk. We're just saying here's some proof that really good beers & really good times don't have to be expensive. So kick back, have a couple, relax, and save some dough while you live like a king, listening to Tony play. Maybe have a nice crisp Pils while you're at it.
BOTTLES:
$6 for any 22oz Lagunitas bottles, all night
Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale
Hop Stoopid
Maximus
And maybe we'll find a couple of other gems to pull out too.
Doors open at 4pm, all beers on tap when we open. Tony starts playing at 6pm.
Oh, and free snacks are also a good bet. Come loosen up & have some fun.
See you under the bar,
Your Friends at Über Tavern
PS:
If you make it through these 3 consecutive nights at our bar, please consider rehab over the weekend.

BEER POETRY
TOMMY by Rudyard Kipling
I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.
I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.
Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.
We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.
You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

Alan Jackson
Chattahoochee
Well way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie
We laid rubber on the Georgia asphalt
We got a little crazy but we never got caught
Down by the river on a Friday night
A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight
Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women
Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute
Yeah way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a little 'bout love
Well we fogged up the windows in my old Chevy
I was willin' but she wasn't ready
So I settled for a burger and a grape Sno-Cone
Dropped her off early but I didn't go home
Down by the river on a Friday night
A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight
Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women
Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute
Yeah way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a little bout love
Yeah way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a little 'bout love
02 Acoustic Brew - Bubbles
Acoustic Brew
Bubbles
Sometimes comes a moment when it all comes bubblin' out
bubbles from the future and bubbles from the past
bubbles full of happiness bubbles that are sad
bubbles full of things that we should not have done
bubbles full of sadness bubbles full of tears
bubbles full of memories for each and every year
but the bubbles that bring me happiness
are the bubbles
in my beer.
There sometimes comes a moment when it all comes bubblin' out
bubbles from the future and bubbles from the past
bubbles full of happiness bubbles that are sad
bubbles full of things that we should not have done
bubbles full of sadness bubbles full of tears
bubbles full of memories for each and every year
but the bubbles that bring me happiness
are the bubbles
in my beer.
Happiness is bubbles in my beer, in my beer.
03 Billie Holiday - Gimme a Pigfoot and a Bottle of Beer
Billie Holiday
Gimmie a Pigfoot (and a Bottle of Beer)
written by Wesley 'Sox' Wilson
Up in Harlem every Saturday night
Where the highbrows get together
It's just too right
They all congregate and all night hop
And what they do is ooh boppa dop
Ol' Hannah Brown from way across town
Gets full of corn and starts
Bringing them down
And at the break of day
You can hear ol' Hannah say
Gimme a pigfoot and a bottle of beer
Send me a gate I don't care
I feel just like I wanna clown
Give the piano player a drink
Because he's bringing me down
He's got rhythm, yeah, when he stomps his feet
He sends me right off to sleep
Check all your razors and your guns
We're gonna be arrested when the wagon comes
Gimme a pigfoot and a bottle of beer
Send me cause I don't care
I want a pigfoot and a bottle of gin
Send me daddy move right in
I feel just like I wanna shout
Give the piano player a drink
Because he's knocking me out
He's got rhythm when he stomps his feet
He moves me right off to sleep
Check all your razors and your guns
Do the hucklebuckle to the rising sun
Gimme a pigfoot and a bottle of gin
Move me, 'cause I'm in my sin
Gimme a pigfoot and a bottle of beer
04 Kinks - Sunny Afternoon
Kinks
Sunny Afternoon
The tax man's taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
And I can't sail my yacht
He's taken everything I've got
All I've got's this sunny afternoon
Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I got a big fat momma tryin' to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Life this life of luxury, lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime, in the summertime
In the summertime
My girlfriend's run off with my car
And gone back to her ma and pa
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty
Now I'm sitting here
Sipping at my ice cold beer
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
Help me, help me, help me sail away
Well, give me two good reasons why I ought to stay
'Cause I love to live so pleasantly
Life this life of luxury, lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime, in the summertime
In the summertime
Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze
I've got a big fat momma tryin' to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Life this life of luxury, lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime
05 The Marshall Tucker Band - Last Of The Singing Cowboys (Live)
The Marshall Tucker Band
Last Of The Singing Cowboys
In the corner of dark barroom
Sat an ole' cowboy singin' Western tunes
Singin' songs he learned as a child
All about the West back when it was wild
He said he came from down Texas way
The cowboys were tough
The women the same way
Said he was a star back in '31
and Hollywood had liked him for some
songs that he had done
He's the last of the singin' cowboys
Singin' songs of inspiration and joy
Yippie Yi Yo, Yippie Yi Ay, Yippie Yi Ay
He took a break, just to chug down a beer
C'mon folks holler out the songs you'd like to hear
If you find some one, I know a million tunes
I'm not up here singin' for me
This is all done for you
And then he bragged on the Stetson hat that he wore
Said it was the finest made since the war
And he won the silver buckle ridin' on a cow
And as he laughed he said
I'll bet you're wonderin' how?
'Cause I'm the last of the singin' cowboys
Singin' songs of inspiration and joy
Yippie Yi Yo, Yippie Yi Ay, Yippie Yi Ay
And after three hours or maybe more
A lady grabbed his arm
and showed him to the door
The bartender said, "He's blind, you see
Don't tell him the only audience he
had was you and me."
'Cause he's the last of the singin' cowboys
Singin songs of inspiration and joy
Yippie Yi Yo, Yippie Yi Ay, Yippie Yi Ay,
Yippie Yi Ay, Yippie Yi Ay, Yippie Yi Aaaaaay.
06 Alice Stuart - Seven Beers With the Wrong Woman
Alice Stuart
Seven Beers With the Wrong Woman
D G D
Seven Beers With The Wrong Woman
A
We sat at a table for two
The first thing I knew, she whispered
D
"Oh, boy, I could sure go for you."
G D
My heart beat a little bit quicker
D7 G
As I held her sweet little hand
D
I swelled up with pride, but oh, how she lied
A D
I sure was a foolish young man.
Seven Beers With The Wrong Woman
She made me get up and dance
Around and around we circled
'Til I missed the money from my pants
I asked her if she had seen it
She smiled up at me and said, "No!"
To this day to me, it's a big mystery
I wonder just where did it go.
Seven Beers With The Wrong Woman
Her husband walked in after that
Soon as he spied us together
He walked up and gimme a bat
He took me by the seat of my britches
Boy he sure jerked up the slack
And then I got tossed, out the door, by the boss
Who told me to never come back.
Seven Beers With The Wrong Woman
It's left me only regret
I guess she was only a-foolin'
When she called me her darling and pet
Oh! I wish that the Lord had made Adam
And never made anyone else
There's one thing I know, the next place I go
I'm gonna buy fourteen beers for myself.
07 Creeping Time - Cheap American Lager
Song-Cheap American Lager
Band-Creeping Time
Album-Cheap American Lager
I don't know where I'm gonna go from here
Think I'll just sit down and have me a beer
Cheap American Lager is all that you need
When the end of the world is all that you see
I read the morning paper and sip back my tea
It's all so depressing maybe it's just me
I try to be positive and keep my head high
I'm thinkin' happy thoughts but I know it's a lie
I don't know where I'm gonna go from here
Think I'll just sit down and have me a beer
Cheap American Lager is all that you need
When the end of the world is all that you see
Politicians are whining please give me your vote
I don't trust one of your soundbites or quotes
Ulterior motives is all that I see
Not one of your promises can I believe
I don't know where I'm gonna go from here
Think I'll just sit down and have me a beer
Cheap American Lager is all that you need
When the end of the world is all that you see
Y'know it don't really matter at all what I do
I can't seem to shake these deep midnight blues
Starin' all day long at that computer screen
?? just makes me want to scream
I don't know where I'm gonna go from here
Think I'll just sit down and have me a beer
Cheap American Lager is all that you need
When the end of the world is all that you see
My hound dog beside me is lyin' in the sun
Not a care in the world he's always up for fun
He's ready to go whenever I am
He sleeps the day away whenever he can
I don't know where I'm gonna go from here
Think I'll just sit down and have me a beer
Cheap American Lager is all that you need
When the end of the world is all that you see
Now my fear is all gone and my mind is a blur
Sometimes it's just the best way you serve
Cheap American Lager all warm in my head
Makes me forget all the things I said
I don't know where I'm gonna go from here
Think I'll just sit down and have me a beer
Cheap American Lager is all that you need
When the end of the world is all that you see
08 Ralph Wall-Greg Mertz - Homemade Beer
Ralph Wall and Greg Mertz
Homemade Beer
I got an old crock to fill at the water spout
Wash all the dirt and every little spider out
We got a big thirst to slay
Once again it's time to make
Homemade beer
The boil is on now throw away the bag of hops
Close your eyes I'm gonna add some secret drops
Gonna brew it up real strong
Nights never last too long with my homemade beer
We've gone through the stock by the sixes, twelves
There's very little left on the basement shelves
We don't dare run out of bottles to pour
That's why we're here to make up some more
Homemade beer
Ferment
99 bottles age on the wall
Just about time for the party to call
Another day or two we'll be feelin' alright
'Cause there's nothing like a Saturday night
With homemade beer
Hey hand me the church key
Gotta lift another crown
Keep it nearby I'll soon drink another down
We've raised alot of beer on this farm
I sure can't see any harm
In homemade beer
Yeah, we've got a big thirst to slake
I'm glad we decided to make
Homemade beer
Homemade beer
Sweet homemade beer.
09 Hank Williams - My Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Hank Williams
My Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
I can't buy no beer.
Well I'm standin' on a corner
With a bucket in my hand
I'm waitin' for a woman
That ain't got no man.
'Cause My Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
I can't buy no beer.
Well, I went upon the mountain
I looked down in the sea
I seen the crabs and the fishes
Doin' the be-bop-beep.
'Cause My Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
I can't buy no beer.
Well, there ain't no use
of me workin' so hard
When I got a woman
in the boss man's yard.
'Cause My Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
I can't buy no beer.
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
Yeah my Bucket's Got A Hole In It
I can't buy no beer.

11 Codie Prevost - Not Just The Beer Talkin'
Codie Prevost
Not Just the Beer Talkin
I've been coming here half my life
And I see her all the time
It sure is hard to cowboy up
And say what's on my mind
I get tongue tied a little zipper lipped
And act too seriously
But it's a whole different ball game
When I get a couple in me
That's when my mouth starts running like a draft tap
And I'm professin' my love to her over and over
But I can't tell her till I have a little liquid confidence
But I mean what I say and I say what I mean
Though I say it with a slight slur
I love her and it's not just the beer talking
She knows right around a pint or two
I'll probably come sliding up
And give her an earful of I love yous
Until she's heard enough
I'll tell her it's not just temporary
And I want us to last
She thinks they're words
And not much more
spoken through an empty glass
'Cause my mouth starts running like a draft tap
And I'm professin' my love to her over and over
But I can't tell her till I have a little liquid confidence
But I mean what I say and I say what I mean
Though I say it with a slight slur
I love her and it's not just the beer talkin'
Not it's just the beer talking
Not it's just the mouth on the long necked bottle
Not just the beer talking no sir I love her
And it's not just the beer
In the sober light of day
Every single word I say
Is gonna come out crystal clear
And in our golden years
My mouth will still be running like a draft tap
I'll be professin' my love to her over and over
I'll still tell her when I have a little liquid confidence
And I'll mean what I say and I'll say what I mean
Though I'll say it with a slight slur
I love her and it's not just the beer talkin'
Not it's just the beer talking
Not it's just the mouth on the long necked bottle
Not it's not just the beer talking no sir I love her
And it's not just the beer
12 Eric Church - Guys Like Me
Eric Church
Guys Like Me
I wear a greasy ball cap
I like my shirt untucked
I spend Saturdays working on my truck
I don't like to fight
But I ain't scared to bleed
Most don't mess with a guy like me
'Cause guys like me drink too many beers on Friday after work
Our best blue jeans have Skoal rings
We wear our boots to church
So rough around the edges
It's hard to believe
That girls like you
Love guys like me
Your daddy worked at the bank
Mine worked on cars
You went to college
I pulled graveyard
You must have had your pick
Of all the trust fund types
But you came back to me and only God knows why
'Cause guys like me drink too many beers on Friday after work
Our best blue jeans have Skoal rings
We wear our boots to church
So rough around the edges
It's hard to believe
That girls like you
Love guys like me
Now there's a lot of guys like me out there
In a lot of little towns
And tellin' all our buddies
we won't ever settle down
We say thats just the way we are
and the way we'll always be
So God sends girls like you for guys like me
Thank God there's girls like you
for guys like me
13 Billy Joel - Piano Man
Billy Joel
Piano Man
It's nine o'clock on a Saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Makin' love to his tonic and gin
He says, "Son, can you play me a memory?
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes."
la la la, di di da
La la, di di da da dum
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright
Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's some place that he'd rather be
He says, "Bill, I believe this is killing me."
As the smile ran away from his face,
"Well I'm sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place"
Oh, la la la, di di da
La la, di di da, da dum
Now Paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And he's talkin' with Davy, who's still in the Navy
And probably will be for life
And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness
But it's better than drinkin' alone
Sing us a song you're the piano man
sing us a song tonight
well we're all in the mood for a melody
and you got us feeling alright
It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
'Cause he knows that it's me they've been comin' to see
To forget about life for a while
And the piano, it sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say, "Man, what are you doin' here?"
Oh, la la la, di di da
La la, di di da, da dum
Sing us a song you're the piano man
sing us a song tonight
well we're all in the mood for a melody
and you got us feeling alright

15 Reckless Kelly - Seven Nights in Eire
Reckless Kelly
Seven Nights In Eire
The first pub we could stagger to was twelve steps from the plane
A Virgin flight to Shannon town the day it didn't rain
The laughing eyes of Ireland sparkling blue and green
With hair as black as Guinness stout and barely seventeen
Now we're back out on the cobblestones
We're whisky drunk and high again
Liquored up and gearing up for seven nights in Ireland
The corner booth is waiting for the session to begin
It's quiet as a mother's prayer 'til we all stumble in
And it's fifty happy voices mixed with whistles made of tin
And a piper man's a blowing like the North Atlantic wind
And an Aran island beauty is sawing on the violin
I wonder if she'll miss me after seven nights in Ireland
On Ladies' Day in Galway we watched the ponies run
Fifty pounds against the odds and came in six to one
McSwiggin heard the race report, he invited us on in
So we drank Catholic whisky with all our newfound friends
They raised a glass to all of us and we all toasted them
Here's to Michael, Tom, and Pat and seven nights in Ireland
Well we kissed all the girls goodbye and gathered in our gear
And as she walked me to the gate I swear I saw a tear
And when she looked into my eyes I knew she felt my pain
And only then I realized we were standing in the rain
So save our places at the pub and when the eyes are dry again
We'll come back another day for seven nights in Ireland
16 Allison Moorer - Yessirree
Allison Moorer
Yessirree
I know a magical place to get a taste of a little heaven on earth
It's just a watering hole but many a soul go there to quench their thirst
My whistle's dry there's nowhere that I can think of I'd rather be
It's called the Blue Moon Tap Room, yessirree, yessirree
It has thirty cent draws and that's because they only cost Tony two bits
See it's Tony's joint and he makes it a point to let every poor bum get lit
He's a drunk's patron saint and he won't hesitate to fix you some supper for free
It's called the Blue Moon Tap Room, yessirree, yessirree
Each morning at eight it opens its gates for all of my buddies and me
And with our foots on the rail and our buckets of ale we tell stories no one believes
We spit and we cuss at the lives that left us then toast to our freedom with glee
It's called the Blue Moon Tap Room, yessirree, yessirree
I sit tight each night 'til they turn up the lights empty my last one and leave
Then squint my eyes at the dawn in the sky as people walk by on the street
God only knows where it is they go but there's only one place for me
And you know that's where you'll find me, you know
It's called the Blue Moon Tap Room, yessirree, yessirree
17 Tracy Lawrence - If I Don't Make It Back
Tracy Lawrence
If I Don't Make It Back
We went out for beers and a couple laughs
Knowin' full well that every bad joke that Jimmy told
Might be his last
So we laughed like the world wasn't at war
Said things to him we'd never said before
And he teared up as he held up his glass
He said, "Boys, if I don't make it back
Have a beer for me, don't waste no tears on me.
On Friday night sit on the visitors side
And cheer for the home team.
Drive my Camaro, 90 miles an hour down Red Rock Rock
With 'Born to Run' blastin' on the radio.
And find someone good enough for Amy,
Who will love her like I would have
If I don't make it back."
We said, "Hey, man that ain't gonna happen.
Don't even think like that.
If we know you, you'll pull through without a scratch."
He pulled me aside in the parkin' lot
Said, "Amy and me we're gonna tie the knot.
You're my best man, just wanted you to know that.
Just in case I don't make it back.
Have a beer for me, don't waste no tears on me.
On Friday night sit on the visitors side
And cheer for the home team.
Drive my Camaro, 90 miles an hour down Red Rock Rock
With 'Born to Run' blastin' on the radio.
And find someone good enough for Amy
Who will love her like I would have
If I don't make it back.
If the good Lord calls me home
I'd like to think my friends
Will think about me when I'm gone."
Well, Miller Lite ain't my brand
But I drink one every now and then, in his honour.
And we ain't missed a home game yet.
Had that Camaro at 110 on Red Rock Road
When the speakers blowed.
And I introduced Amy to a friend of mine from Monroe.
He's a good ol' boy,
But you know, she just ain't ready.
18 The Lancashire Hotpots - Bitter Lager Cider Ale Stout
The Lancashire Hotpots
Bitter Lager Cider Ale Stout
I went down the local pub the other night
A pint of mild there in me sight
Up approached a southern geezer
he said,
"Have a Bacardi Breezer."
I said, "I hope you're joking son that's not right."
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale, Stouts
Designers drink, I'd rather drink nought
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham that's for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and yer out
I took Jean to Pig & Albert for us tea
When some bloke ordered WKD
Well I didn't know what for do
When Big Frank ordered Malibu
I tried explain to Jean
She just couldn't see
(She's partially sighted, registered disabled)
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale, Stouts
Designer drinks, I'd rather drink nought
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham that's for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and your out
Everywhere I turn I see these alcopops
All the kids are drinking 'em
Hanging round the shops
I should be their babysitter
I could get 'em onto bitter
No more ASBO's
It's just barley, wheat and hops
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale, Stouts
Designer drinks, I'd rather drink nought
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham that's for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and your out
Singing Bitter, Lager, Cider, Ale, Stouts
Designer drinks, I'd rather drink nought
You can keep your white wine spritzer
Babycham that's for your sister
Order that in Lancashire son and your out
Please drink in moderation
19 Chris Cagle - Wal-Mart Parking Lot
Chris Cagle
Wal-Mart Parking Lot
I remember the summer I turned 16
And that old jalopy daddy gave to me
It had holes in the floor and just a 305
But I didn't care 'cause I could finally drive
There wasn't much to do in my hometown
So every weekend night we would all go down
Yeah there were freaks and hippies in my high school
Football players all tryin' to be cool
And everybody scramblin' to hide their beer
When the cops drove by 'til the coast was clear
Kids falling in and out of love
On the hoods of Chevys, in the beds of trucks
We were stumbling our way through life 'til our senior year
But man we sure did learn a lot in that Wal-Mart parking lot
She had long blonde hair and sea green eyes
The most beautiful thing I'd ever seen in my life
But I was young and dumb and didn't have a line
And all I could say was, "Can I call you sometime?"
She just said no and walked away
And that was the first time I felt my heart break
And there were freaks and hippies in my high school
Football players all trying to be cool
And everybody scramblin' to hide their beer
When the cops drove by 'til the coast was clear
Kids fallin' in and out of love
On the hoods of Chevys, in the beds of trucks
We were stumbling our way through life 'til our senior year
But man we sure did learn a lot in that Wal-Mart parking lot
Yeah we all did a lot of livin'
It was small town teenage heaven
And there were freaks and hippies in my high school
We were all just trying to be cool
And everybody scramblin' to hide their beer
When the cops drove by 'til the coast was clear
Kids fallin' in and out of love
On the hoods of Chevys, in the beds of trucks
We were stumbling our way through life 'til our senior year
But man we sure did learn a lot in that Wal-Mart parking lot
In that Wal-Mart parking lot
I had my first kiss, my first love
Got my ass kicked but I got back up
Lost my way, found it again
Had one long buzz and a dozen best friends
In that Wal-Mart parking lot
In that Wal-Mart parking lot
20 Zac Brown Band - Chicken Fried
Zac Brown Band
Chicken Fried
You know I like my chicken fried
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I was raised up beneath the shade of a Georgia pine
And that's home you know
Sweet tea pecan pie and homemade wine
Where the peaches grow
And my house it's not much to talk about
But it's filled with love that's grown in southern ground
And a little bit of chicken fried
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I've seen the sunrise
Seen the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love
Well it's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most
Not where you live what you drive or the price tag on your clothes
There's no dollar sign on piece of mind this I've come to know
So if you agree have a drink with me
Raise your glasses for a toast
To a little bit of chicken fried
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I've seen the sunrise
Seen the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love
I thank God for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring.
Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives
So we don't have to sacrifice
All the things we love
Like our chicken fried
And cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I've seen the sunrise
See the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of my precious child
And know a mother's love
Get ya little chicken fried
And cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I've seen the sunrise
Seen the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of my precious child
And know a mother's love
