Kitsap County Fair Homebrew Competition

Welcome to the 4th annual Kitsap County Fair Homebrew Competition, with judging of beer, mead, and ciders. Entries will be accepted from July 24 through 31. This competition is organized by the West Sound Brewers, a local homebrew club. Entries in all BJCP styles and substyles will be accepted. Entries will be judged in accordance with the BJCP style guidelines, which can be found at http://www.bjcp.org/stylecenter.php. After all entries are received, they will be consolidated into “ribbon categories” for awards. There will be approximately 8-10 ribbon categories, depending upon the total number of entries. Meads and ciders will remain in their own separate categories. The final breakdown will depend on the number of entries received in each BJCP category.

The highest scoring entries in each ribbon category will advance to the best of show round. Scores from the initial round of judging will not be considered in the BOS round, and the judges will collaboratively select the best overall entry. If we have enough judges, the BOS round will be judged by a fresh panel not involved in the initial round.

Winner of BOS (includes all beer, mead, and cider categories) will receive the Robert Allen Award and various other prizes to be determined later. In addition to Best of Show, we will award a Best of Class for Lagers, Ales, Mead and Cider. Other awards may be given depending on participation from potential sponsors.

A fee of $8 ($6 for seniors) per brewer (up to 3 entries) is required. Entry fee must be paid in cash or check payable to “Kitsap County Fair” when submitted. Each entry will receive a 5 day exhibitor’s pass to the Kitsap County Fair. All entries become the property of the Fair, and will be disposed of after judging. No entrants under 21 years of age allowed.

All entries should be submitted in 2 unlabeled, 11.2-16.9 oz bottles (please obscure any cap markings too). Brown glass is best. Each bottle must have our completed contest label rubber banded to it. Limit is 3 entries per brewer (6 bottles). We strongly encourage entrants to use our on-line label generator at http://www.westsoundbrewers.org/comp/labels.php to create labels for you entries. The on-line label generator will save you time and help keep us organized, but if you don’t have internet access or don’t want to use the on-line label generator, feel free to use the blank labels on the back of this flyer.

Entries can be dropped off between the dates above at Hood Canal Brewery, 26449 Bond Road NE, Kingston, or Olympic Brewing Supplies, 2817 Wheaton Way #102, Bremerton. Please pack your entries securely. We suggest putting your bottles into a six-pack carrier, then in a brown paper bag, and finally into two plastic grocery bags. Exhibitor passes should be available when you drop off your entries, so be sure to take them with you.

Winners will be posted at our fair display and our website on opening day of the Fair, and not before. We’ll have an awards ceremony after the fair where brewers can pick up their ribbons, trophies, and judging sheets. Entrants will be notified of the awards ceremony date by email and on our website.
